The luxury end of the toilet seat market got a boost recently with the news that’s been circulating about Argentinian football superstar Diego Maradona, who has reportedly demanded the installation of two bidet toilet fixtures at Argentina’s World Cup base in South Africa.

These bidet toilets are termed the “World’s Best Toilet Seat” by the supplier of the Intimist Electronic Bidet, which features warm water and a warm air blow dryer, a heated toilet seat and front and rear bidet wands.

Bidets are more commonly used in some countries than others, of course — and it would appear that they are popular bathroom fixture in Argentina. Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper reports that Maradona’s toilet bidet combination models have been installed at the High Performance Center in Pretoria where the national team is due to be staying.

As well as requesting these super toilets, the Argentinian FA is also reported to have asked for 10 hot dishes to be served for the team every day, as well as at least 14 different salads with every meal. There must be three desserts, and ice cream available at all times!

Meanwhile, the supplier of the Intimist e-Bidet tells visitors to his website that a large sector of the current demand for bidets comes from people who are handicapped, and that it helps to relieve some of the symptoms of conditions such as hemorrhoids or diarrhea as well as the aftereffects of surgery in that area.

But as more and more people discover the advantages that they can offer, it’s expected that interest in the home market will also increase. Apparently, they are all the rage in Japan and other Asian countries. Let’s see whether bidets will catch on in the US as much as they have in other parts of the world.
